Siding Installation and Repair in Irvington, NJ
New siding changes how a house looks and how well it keeps weather out. We install full siding replacements and repair damaged sections so they blend in.
Signs it is time for new siding
Siding is the largest surface on your house, and it takes weather from every direction. Here is what tells us a house needs siding work:
- Panels that are warped, buckled, cracked or hanging loose
- Boards that are soft, rotting or swollen near the ground, the roofline or under windows
- Paint that peels again a year or two after painting
- Gaps at corners and around windows where water and drafts get in
- Mold, mildew or water stains on interior walls
- Faded, chalky siding that makes a well-kept house look tired
What a siding project includes
- Removal and disposal of old siding
- Sheathing repairs where it is damaged
- House wrap with taped seams
- Flashing around windows and doors
- New siding installed to manufacturer specs
- Corners, J-channel and trim details
- Soffit and fascia trim where needed
- Section repairs after storm damage
How we install siding
- Measure and plan. We measure every wall, note the windows, doors and trim, and write up a clear estimate.
- Remove the old siding. We strip it carefully, check the sheathing and replace any rotted sections before covering anything.
- Wrap and flash. House wrap goes on with taped seams, and windows and doors are flashed so water drains out, not in.
- Install the siding. Panels go on level and fastened the way the manufacturer specifies, with room to expand and contract through New Jersey's temperature swings.
- Finish the details. Corners, trim, soffits and fascia are finished cleanly, and the site is cleaned up every day.
Siding for older North Jersey homes
Irvington and the surrounding towns have a mix of older colonials, Victorians, Cape Cods and two-family homes, many with several layers of old siding or original wood clapboard underneath. When we remove old siding we often find water damage hidden behind it, especially under windows and at the bottom of walls. Fixing that before the new siding goes on is what makes the new exterior last.
We also work on commercial and multi-family buildings, where siding, trim and flashing need to be coordinated around many windows and entrances.
Siding with the rest of the exterior
Siding works best as part of a sealed exterior. If your windows or doors are due, or the roof edge needs attention, we can plan everything together. If you are not sure where to start, a free roof inspection and a walk around the house is a good first step.

Siding questions in Irvington, NJ
Look for warped, cracked or loose panels, soft or rotting boards, peeling paint that keeps coming back, mold or water stains on interior walls, and rising energy bills. If the damage is in one area, a repair may be enough.
Yes. After storm damage or a localized problem, we replace the damaged panels and match the existing siding as closely as possible. Older or discontinued colors can be hard to match exactly, and we tell you before we start.
Under New Jersey's Uniform Construction Code, repairing or replacing siding with like material on a one- or two-family home is generally ordinary maintenance and does not need a permit. Changing materials or working on commercial buildings can be different, so we check with the local construction office first.
House wrap is the weather barrier that goes behind the siding. Siding sheds most of the rain, but wind-driven water always gets behind it. The wrap and the flashing around windows and doors are what keep that water out of the walls.
Spring through fall is ideal, but siding can be installed most of the year. In very cold weather some materials become brittle and need extra care, so we plan the schedule with the weather in mind.
It is often a good idea. Doing both together lets us flash each window properly into the new wall and avoids cutting into new siding later. See our window replacement page.
